Punta Arenas is about as far south as you can go in Chile on the mainland. We were welcomed with strong winds and a sky full of clouds.  But, even with all the grayness from above, Punta Arenas has shown to be a very colorful and vibrant town.

Our first morning here we spent wondering the town, booking our next flight from the local agency, and preparing to go see the penguins later in the afternoon.  We left for the Seno Otway sound around 4pm to see the penguin colony. It was FREEZING! The winds were so strong they almost knocked me over more than a few times. It was fabulous seeing penguins in their natural habitat and it was absolutely worth it! They were SO cute! It was so funny to see penguins and pink flamingos right next to each other. We also came across a skunk, bunny, and a goose all within 10 feet of walking. Thank God the skunk wasn’t freaked out by us. It would be horrible spending the next 8 months of our trip in skunk clothes!

The next day we awoke to beautiful blue skies and hardly any wind. We spent the day exploring the city and it shores. We got our pictures taken at the end of the continent and now we are ready to head up to the Lakes District tomorrow to go see active volcanoes and relax in the hot springs. Life is good!
