We arrived in the afternoon by train and bus to Siena on Wed. Sep 22. The views along the way of the Tuscan hillsides were breathtaking. I could spend a couple of weeks roaming in a rental car going to all the hillside villages. We checked into the hotel and decided to hit the streets. Once again, there is shopping everywhere. We figured out the local bus and made our daily trip to Pam(super market) and bought our groceries for the next couple of days. When we returned to our room to eat dinner, there was a movie being filmed out our window. Not sure what it was, but they were speaking English. I think Aaron and I have memorized their lines. They had to repeat the scene over and over in a few different directions (with the camera angle). Later that night, we strolled the streets along with the locals. I was on the hunt for soy gelato. After going in and asking over a dozen gelato shops, nobody had any! Sad moment. The days of soy gelato for me were at a fearful end…for now. Instead, we decided to try a new flavor of sorbeto. It was a tropical fruit that we both had never heard of (boabab), and it was delicious. Day 2, finally success in finding soy gelato!

Dana has been doing most of the blog because Italy was higher on her priority list. Italy for me, has really been what I expected, very touristy! Although, all the major tourist sights are well worth fighting the crowds. It is beautiful in Tuscany but filled with bus loads of tourists during the day. Siena is really much better at night, after all the crowds have gone. I’ll try to do my part when we get to South America. I’m very much looking forward to that portion of our trip.
After 20 days of constant travel we are still looking forward to the places to come. Most vacations last less than 20 days and you still need to rest when you get home from the exhaustion of travel. We on the other hand are really just beginning. We have to remind ourselves that this sort of a trip needs to be taken at a slower pace and we don’t have to see everything. That sounds good in theory but we have been running around like crazy and with very little rest. If were completely tired from our month in Europe, there’s always that time we reserved for rest on a beach in Brazil.
We really are trying to keep the amount of pictures we post down to a reasonable number. Its difficult to capture with a camera what were seeing in person. Its also hard to get a reliable internet connection over here, so our posts may come late or in bunches. Hope everyone is well back home! Were off to Florence in the morning.
Ciao!!
