We got a decadently late start after the most delicious breakfast served right in our room ... I could get used to this!  Eventually, though, we had to get back on the road (I don't know, the innkeepers said something about "vacating" the room ... whatever!) and make some southerly headway.  The morning was beautiful, sunny and cool as we made our way through forests and out into rolling meadows as we headed for Klamath Falls.  After a quick lunch stop we crossed the border back into California and made our way out to Lave Rocks National Park which is to hell and gone!  Seriously, out in the middle of nowhere and looking like the middle of hell.  Not exactly the beauty of California that we are used to.  So why did we go?  It is one of the National Parks on Blake's California Parks Tour --- he has to get a stamp from all 24 National Parks in California in one calendar year.  He's doing great and is well on his way to getting all the stamps this year.  The late afternoon was just a long, hot grind.  When we pulled into Redding at 5:45 pm it was 106.  YIKES!  We're going to get out earlier tomorrow to avoid the late afternoon heat, though we're not sure at this point where we'll end up tomorrow night.

Flate Tires and Full Tanks of the day:

Blake's Flat Tire was the heat.
Blake's Full Tank was the black-green pines along CA Hwy-299.

Giovanna's Flat Tire was the heat and the really long day.
Giovanna's Full Tank was the slow and beautiful start to the day (including the excellent breakfast) in Bend.
