Hermanus was our first stop on the Garden route - the coastal route from Cape Town to Port Elisabeth. It is famed as being the best place to see Whales, so I booked in for a Whale watching trip on a boat. Saw absolutely nothing. That evening we went for a walk along the coast and saw about 5 whales, so gave up on the boat trip idea. There was a great coastal walk from a beach where the hostel dropped us off (after running over their own dog - he was ok), about 10 km back to the town centre. We caught up with an English couple we kept meeting and had a Braai (BBQ) at the hostel.
We also met up with Rosemary, a Capetownian I met in Granada while studying Spanish. We had a meal overlooking the ocean and caught up on old times, and got a great insight into South Africa, as she used to work in the criminal justice system throughout the handover.
On our last night we had a great view of a Breaching Whale in the cove, amazing.
