We were frisked for guns and knives prior to boarding the San Fran bus, so were a little apprehensive. Danger of death aside, the bus was a great way to come into the city, with fab views from the Oakland bay bridge. Our hotel was on the boarder of North Beach (Italian area) and Fishermans Wharf, and was a great spot to be staying. We did a walking tour up the coit tower, through China town (ate fortune cookie!) and up twisty Lombard street. The next day we hired a tandom (interesting!) and cycled across the golden gate, then on to a little town on the bay called Sausalito, and back on the ferry, where I bumped into an old friend from Heriot-Watt in Edinburgh, as you do.
We also took in a trip to Alcatraz, which was amazing. Very atmospheric audio tour all spoken by prisoners and wardens. Gloomy place.
Ate out in a nice Italian, and listened to some jazz in the evening.
