Day 12:

We started the day off at 10:20am. Yes, late, but we did go to bed at 2am.

A3 C14 odometer reading 7487
Rusty 1200RT odometer reading 28976

When we departed Las Vegas the temperature was a balmy 98 degrees. We arrived at the Hoover Dam (http://www.usbr.gov/lc/hooverdam/) at 11am, and the temperature had already risen to 110 degrees. It was very hot. Again due to our time constraints we elected not to do the guided tour, which would have taken us several hours, and because I had already seen the tour on PBS (www.pbs.org). So we just did a self tour, but then I walked the dam solo as Rusty was in no mood to go walking in this heat. I was looking for the state divider in the middle of the road as I had seen in movies, but that is now gone. Now there is only a plaque in place which shows Arizona one way and Nevada the other way. See picture. We departed the Hoover Dam at around 12:15pm.

From there we stayed on US93 for a few hours before getting to I-40 in Kingman, AZ, where we arrived at 3:15pm MT. On US93 we passed the main entrance to the Grand Canyon Sky Walk (http://www.grandcanyonskywalk.com/mainmenu.html)(only 50 miles away), but time time time. In Kingman we had lunch and then we stopped off in Seligman, AZ (http://www.seligmanarizona.org/), (to gas up and put on rain suits) which promotes itself as the birthplace of Route 66. We then decided to travel a short section of Route 66 till the next exit, which put us back on I-40. It was a nice ride, but we did not pass through any town other than Seligman.

We next stopped in Flagstaff for a quick bite. On I-40 we passeed one of the main exits for the entrance to the Grand Canyon http://www.nps.gov/grca. We also passed the main entrance to Meteor Crater National Monument (http://www.meteorcrater.com/index.php). Wow, so close ....... but ...... well you know. We ended the day in Holbrook, AZ at 8:30pm the Holiday Inn Express. Arizona definitely deserves another visit to explore the many beautiful and historical sites it has to offer.

We rode a total of 350 miles today. I can honestly say that I have never experienced such dry heat before. Today was a scorcher.
