, Madrid,
Saturday, June 23, 2012

So I'm going to join my Madrid blog with some special reflections on my 2 months, that's right, anyone that had me dead or in jail in less than 2 months sorry to disappoint.

So I will knock Madrid out the way quickly as there is not a lot to tell. I jumped a bus from Barcelona for 30euro instead of paying the ridiculous 140 euro for the train. Catch it train takes 3 hrs and the bus takes 8 but whatever. So I arrived in Madrid just in time to watch Spain win, drink celebratory sangria, and then some more sangria and then I woke up :) so today I went on the hostel walking tour which was nice and then jumped the hop on hop off bus to cover the rest of the highlights. Not much to note, a couple of palaces, a few churches and some amazing fountains and gardens. Pretty standard for Spain. And tonight I watched the England vs Italy game and am suitably devastated about the result. Tomorrow I'm doing my washing and heading to the airport to trip back to London for my over night stop over before NYC :) ok so that Madrid :) fun and relaxing couple of days here. It's a pretty crazy place, especially when Spain win.

So 2 months passes on Saturday 23rd June since I left the sunny skies of Australia and I have experienced a lot since then! Let's run through so highlights:

Anzac Day at Gallipoli - indescribable
Westham game and fabric night club in London - proper mental!
Edinburgh, Loch Ness and Glencoe - amazing!
Kissing the blarney stone - like I needed any more help at talking BS
Prague - amazing skyline and central Europe's biggest club with Miss Profke
Eurostar from London to Brussels under the English channel
Amsterdam - History and shenanigans all in one
Paris - too many monuments to name!
Somme battlefields - sobering and moving experience
Niggas in Paris - hanging with the old boy in Paris was a massive highlight
Nice - beach, how I've missed you!
Milan - amazing duomo
Lake Como and Lake Garda - beautiful
Verona - such a beautiful place, really enjoyed my time here.
Venice - awesome on so many levels and I think the best gelato so far
Dolomite mountains - even the weather couldn't hide their beauty
Florence - beautiful city. Managed to over take Verona with its amazing skyline
Cinque Terre - pure love for this area. Could happily live in one the little villages
Rome - amazement on a grand scale! Such history and yet such amazing modern day culture too
Vatican City - St Peters basilica is off the hook! No picture will ever capture the scale of this place. The views are well worth the walk to the top
Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius - that's right I climbed a volcano and went back 2000 years on one day!
Barcelona - what better place to do a music festival that runs past breakfast
Catalonia - a fantastic few days with some amazing food. I've done France and Italy but I think the best food I've had has been Spain by far. I'm in love with Spanish food :)

And now it's 12:06am and I'm just about to sign off on my last European blog. A little sad but when I look back I could not have asked for a better two months in Europe. The weather has been amazing, apart from London, but I had a pretty great group of Aussie girls to hang with there that made up for the London weather. Touch wood nothing has really gone wrong, no missed flights, no robberies (yes I did lose my wallet and break a bath but clearly both self inflicted, not sure if I blogged about the bath but that story can remain untold) and my health has been great throughout.

I have chosen not to put new pics up for this one but instead ones that remind me of home and keep my thoughts forever there. It's knowing that I still have 12 amazing weeks of adventuring left and then I get to go home to my equally amazing home life that makes me truly lucky. Sorry if you dont feature in my pics, I have a limited collection on my phone but my family and friends know who they are :) if you would like to add a pic of us together please whatsapp or Facebook it to me :)

Backpacker tip for clothes washing:

Socks and undies get dirty
Shirts and T-shirts get dirty
Pants...pants never get dirty!
