I will start by saying this place is amazing!!! Definitely worth braving the hangover from the previous night.

So I booked a day trip from Florence out to check out the Cinque Terre region. Cinque Terre means "five lands" and this comes from the 5 villages that are built into the hills on the coast in this region. So we headed west to the coast passing through La Spezia on our way to our first stop in Manarola, second most southern town, only briefly as we would be coming back to Manarola later on in the day. We jumped a train one town north to Corniglia which is the only town not directly on the coast. This is because it is situation at the top of a cliff/hill that requires you to climb 382 steps but they aren't difficult steps. We took in the beautiful views from the lookout before enjoying an amazing seafood lunch that included octopus, anchovies, squid, calamari, crab and prawns which were all amazing. I was a little iffy on the Anchovies but when I tasted them wow they were amazing! After lunch we headed back down the stairs and back on the train one more stop north to Vernazza where our walk would begin. We completed the challenging but worthwhile walk from Vernazza to Monterosso al mare the most north village in Cinque Terre. Once there we relaxed with a cold drink and took on the beautiful beach scene before us. After some free time exploring we jumped on a boat back to the southern most town of Riomaggiore where we then completed the relaxing walk along La Via Dell'Amore (Lovers Lane) that links Riomaggiore and Manarola. After taking in the quaint village of Manarolla we jumped back on the train to La Spezia to meet our bus back to Florence.

A long day, but definitely worth it. Some of the most beautiful coast line I have ever seen and that's pretty big coming from an Aussie.

Tip of the day: Remember never under any circumstances take a laxative and a sleeping pill on the same night...
