So I booked a day trip from Florence out to check out the Cinque Terre region. Cinque Terre means "five lands" and this comes from the 5 villages that are built into the hills on the coast in this region. So we headed west to the coast passing through La Spezia on our way to our first stop in Manarola, second most southern town, only briefly as we would be coming back to Manarola later on in the day. We jumped a train one town north to Corniglia which is the only town not directly on the coast. This is because it is situation at the top of a cliff/hill that requires you to climb 382 steps but they aren't difficult steps. We took in the beautiful views from the lookout before enjoying an amazing seafood lunch that included octopus, anchovies, squid, calamari, crab and prawns which were all amazing
A long day, but definitely worth it. Some of the most beautiful coast line I have ever seen and that's pretty big coming from an Aussie.
Tip of the day: Remember never under any circumstances take a laxative and a sleeping pill on the same night...
