Made our way to Mons for dinner with C and S (C's friend). We went for steak on a rock. Yum in my tum. Along with dinner, I had white port as an aperitif and a couple beers with dinner. I asked the server what his favorite beer was and tried that. Then had a sweeter beer afterwards. Both were nice, quite nice.
After dinner we walked around Le Grand Place. They showed me a couple of their hangouts - Chinchin and O'Malley's. Chinchin's is underground bar. Really neat place, I could see it doing well in TO. O'Malley's is the local Irish pub. Looks like any other pub. Feels like any other pub. Smells like any other pub.
As we walk around, we see a poor schmoe being held up by his buddies. He's hurtling and hurting too. As a side note, he owes his buddies big. They kept having to hike his pants up too. Lol. We also came across an escargot stand. Think of a chip truck/wagon that sells escargot. Unfortunately I was too full from dinner to give it a go.
During our walk to and from the restaurant, I learned about the red light street that's nearby. Prostitution is legal. They can be found via specific storefronts since they cannot be on the streets. These places are marked with the "universal" signage of pink neon lighting. Anyway, the point of this is that what I found interesting is these women used to parade in behind the store windows in lingerie. But, since Mons is considered a family town, the curtains are drawn and therefore you cannot see what you're paying for when walking or driving by, unlike in Brussels where you can.
We make our way to S's after a walk around and hang out for a bit more. He has a nice place. I love the height of the ceilings. My guess is around 15' or so. After a quick visit, we head home.
Wonder if I'll have to fight Max for the bed tonight. Plans for tomorrow are to visit Bruges. Looking forward to it.
