Cheap flights are nice, but the hard part is getting to the airport and back, something not well-developed at the time in the US. So with a cheap flight from Harlingen close to the border, I'm half-way home in Houston.  But I’m at the airport, and I want to hitch-hike, best done from the edges of town.  Now airports are usually at the edges of town, but not always the right edge.  The problem is getting to the highway.  So I walk, literally walk, up entrance ramps and around cloverleaves- it must have been miles- until I finally reach a point propitious for extending a thumb.  I remember waiting for hours the year before at another point in south Texas, so I’m not optimistic.  It works this time.  I get a good long ride to- guess where?  MY DRIVEWAY!  I got a ride to my driveway in Brandon, Mississippi, some 6-7 hours away.  There’s only one problem.  Everything’s yellow.  I shouldn’t have drunk those drinks in Tampico.  I’ll pay dearly for it now, and I’m hardly in shape for it.  From a high of some 190 pounds only a short few years ago, I’m down to 143 now, and that’s BEFORE the hep A.  The travel diet works.  People who gain weight while traveling are tourists, not travelers.  All in all, the trip was successful.  I’m hooked… for life.
