What I did
Shopping
. . . . . . . . Standing tall in the electronics heart of Shenzhen is the SEG Plaza, i read previously it was a square but now the square is a building site, progress i guess.
The SEG Plaza tower is a huge vertical factory, housing some of the famous electronics houses, however its also seen a few suicides, but i am not here to talk about that google it if u are interested.
The shopping aspect for a geek like me is just like dying and going to geek heaven, ( but without the anime virgins, can't have anything i guess). In the Seg Plaza Tower, I lost count of how many floors there were, i think ten, but each has its own specialty. There was a section for light bulbs, LED's, switches, button, chips...just think of something electronic component wise and it was there. I explored until i lost a toe nail, (ill fitting shoes that i had not worn for 16 months opps). I wanted to find the SED Market from the day before, but after 4 hours was loosing hope of ever finding it. Luckily after ignoring the draw of going into every electronics mall or store, i worked out where i had been before. Like the diamond in the rough, i found the SED electronics Market. I charged in like a fat kid in a candy store with his dads stolen wallet....Every stall every corner was a tablet PC. I tried to look at every one and make mental notes, but just realised my memory was full after about 2 stalls, such was the range of tablets available.I had in mind a Herotab MID815, a cheap version that would do everything i needed and more, feverishly i looked around...Left and right up and down 3dimensional heaven and the hell of not having inexhaustible funds . Then at the top of the escalator on the fourth floor of seeing many many things i wanted, many things out of my set price range, I found what i was looking for in every detail, I battered with the sales guy Daniel, in broken but reasonable English, even using a tablet to translate when it got difficult!! We made jokes of the price, well i did then he was serious i joked and finally we got to a price much lower than I had budgeted for so i was more than happy, i got got my new device, tested it until i was happy with it paid and walked away heading back to the hotel. I went via the 7-11, which is funny in that you might find knock off copies, of every major electrical item, in the stores, at low low prices, but the 7-11 had only original beers, at original high prices.. However, Bodingtons, Stella and Draught Guinness are extremely difficult to find in Cebu so i used the extra budget i had saved. I selected a few old favourites, like calling an old friend from years ago and knowing i was going to have a great time with them ....
Back at the hotel i relaxed my weary feet soothing my missing toe nail, and soaked in the bath drinking the beers i had purchase. Bodingtons was something i thought i missed but it just didnt taste the same from a can, Guinness was heaven, Budweiser, tasted the same american tap water as i remember...Then i set about testing my new Herotab and well needless to say i was amazed at its ease of operation, its power and accessibility to software. But this is a travel bog not a tech review.
I slept well and awoke in the morning refreshed and wanting to see more of Shenzhen time for more adventure . . . . . . . . . .
