Yesterday Jimmy and I went to Brugge for the day with Ann, her boyfriend Marc and my half sister Lorena for the day. It's about a 1.5 hour away from the town they live in.
Jimmy loved how fast people drove on the highway. Their speed limit is 120km/hr but of course barely anyone follows that. We had a few Ferraris pass us doing at least 170!!
I hadn’t been to Brugge in over 10 years so it was great to see the city again. We visited areas I hadn’t been to yet like the Belfort tower. Everyone wanted to climb a total of 665 steps to the top of the bell tower. I really didn’t think I’d make it to the top but after some convincing from Marc and Jimmy, I finally caved. We had to pay to climb the steps of course and the lady behind the counter charged me the 25 and younger price! She thought I was under 25 haha! Climbing to the top wasn’t as hard as I imagined and the view once we reached the top was breathtaking.
Later that day, we took a gondola tour of the canals. We saw some houses for sale and I’m telling you, it was very tempting to write down the contact info!! I can’t imagine how beautiful it would be to own or rent a little house right on the canal with direct access to the water.
We continued our walk along the small streets until we discovered a store selling everything related to Belgian beer. They sold every single type of beer with its corresponding glass. It was very tempting to buy almost every glass but I only bought one for the cherry flavoured beer (Kriek). I also discovered that Belgium not only offers cherry, raspberry and lemon flavoured beer but I also found strawberry, blueberry, mango and passion fruit!! Of course I ended up buying one of each to try and whatever I didn’t have a chance to drink, I’m bringing back home.
Today, Sunday, is going to be a day to relax here at their house. Everything is closed on Sundays here. Something I take for granted living in Ottawa.
Luckily, the weather is gorgeous here. We haven’t encountered any rain except in Brussels for a couple of hours. So far it’s been about 20-22 degrees and sunny. I checked the weather back in Ottawa a few days ago and I heard that there has been lots of rain and even some flooding in the west end (haha!) I hope it’s back to decent weather by the time we comehome.
