Hotel Royal, Fes
Cool and breezy
Just got back from our favourite kebab stall in Fes and as luck would have it, the beer shop is around the corner, so we picked up a bottle of Morocco's finest red called Medina (30 dh), what else?
The Medina in Fes is HUGE although the authorities have got wind of the fact that tourists quite like to know where they are going, so they have coloured walking guides all over the Medina. Even so, the guides and touts are there in abundance, all warning you of the dangers of getting lost etc. We ignored them and walked around quite happily on our own for a couple of hours.
A very nice man at the bus station offered to take us to Nador (to get the ferry to spain) in his taxi. The bikes wouldn't be a problem either and he would stop off anywhere we wanted to along the way. For that we would have to pay 1300 dh, although we would get there at a reasonable time of day. The bus to Nador leaves at 1.30 in the morning and costs 110 each, plus 14 or so for the bikes.
We've gone for the cheap option, so we'll keep our room at the hotel and head out to the bus station at about midnight. The bus takes approximately 6 hrs and the ferry more or less the same, so by the time we get to spain we'll be more knackered than we would had we cycled. Also, we'll have to cycle 14 kms between Nador and Melilla, where we catch the ferry, that should be fun.
