Where I stayed
Leaving for Rome
Although the travel was uneventful, we were going on twenty four hours of being up by the time we walked through the Munich airport. I was tired, kids were tired, Wade was tired, and we felt yucky from traveling. We went to the wrong gate, realized a few minutes before the flight was to board and had to run across the airport to make our flight to Rome
With reassurance and the realization that we are actually about to board a plane to Rome (boo hoo for me!) I pulled myself together and stopped acting like a jack ass (or as much as I am able to for a period of time).
Hagan and Wade sat together and Hagan promptly went to sleep while Wade looked on. Quinn and I sat beside this older woman from Greensboro with whom we made general small talk as the planed taxied to the runway. I learned that she was traveling for her first time to Rome with her church group. She had five grown children, something about an RV trip she took with them when they were kids and then I am sure a lot of other interesting stuff she intended on telling us – but Quinn and I fell asleep before the plane even took off. I did wake up three or four times during the hour and a half flight to find Quinn with his leg on the old lady's face or in her lap or drooling on her arm
Ladies and Gentleman Welcome to Rome! We took a shuttle from the airport and were promised delivery to the door of our hotel. Turns out that promises are not always kept by shuttle guys who hustle tourists! Who knew? We were dropped several blocks away with no understanding of where the hotel was. So we wondered around with our luggage looking like lost, exhausted, hot (not in the good looking sense), grumpy tourist – which of course we were. Finally we appealed to a cab driver to stop for us, even though we were not at a taxi stand. The hot (in the good looking sense) Italian guy kindly agreed to take us right to our hotel – two blocks away and 20 Euros later – we checked in.
Our hotel and hotel room can be described politely as efficient. The internet service was unavailable, the room functional, the location perfect and that’s where I am leaving it.
We went to Coliseum right after we had a two hour nap
