Today was Carnival day on board the ship.  Another great inspiration by Jamie the Cruise Director - each department on the ship (dining, housekeeping, deck, etc) created a booth for an afternoon carnival.  Blue Drinks were the beverage of choice and I gamely tried one.  It was too sweet for me, but it sure was pretty!  I competed in only one game....the martini glass race...and I won!  Those of you who know my penchant for drinks that come in martini glasses will understand why I came in first in the race whereone must carry 3 martini glasses on a tray (they were taped down) and run a course up a lane, around a table and back down the lane, spilling as little as possible.  As the  person who kept the most in the glasses, I won.   Satisfied with my victory, I spent the rest of the carnival people watching and listening to the great band by the pool.

The seas are a little rough today, but my sea legs are holding out. We have another fabulous dinnr planned and then a musical show. Had a pina colada and a mojito by the pool today... I am not sure how much of this life of excess one can take.  Poor me!  :(

We met a very interesting and adventurous young woman today who is cruising to Australia with 3 suitcases and camping gear and plans to get off the ship and figure out how to live in Australia for a year. She has no home, no job and, apparently, very little money, but she has an Australian visa and that is all you need when you are 24 years ols and fearless.  After a year in Australia, she plans to spend another year travelling various parts of the world, including a month long train trip through China.  I admire her pluck and courage and wish I had not been quite such a responsible person when I was younger.  There is something to be said about just taking off when you are young and have no responsibilities to anyone other than yourself.  I am sure she will never regret this time in her life!

Although I am being somewhat anti-social, with my nose in a book all day long, I am slowly meeting people on the ship.  Everyone has an interesting story and it is great to talk to people from other parts of the country and the world.  Mom and I met a couple this afternoon from Highlands, NC and it felt like old home week.  It is nice being on a fairly small ship where you see the same people and start to make friendships. I can see why people return to this ship year after year.

I am sure you are bored by now so I will sign off.  I miss all  my friends and family and wish you could all be here with me!
