What I did
Cooked and ate a Burns Supper
Tonight we dined in style. It's not Burns Night but we have an award winning Haggis that needs eating.
Kicked off with a pre-dinner snort of 12 year old Glenkinchie - sweet soft start, becoming flowery.
Next the prime Haggis that we found in Selkirk nestled on a bed of mashed potato turnips and washed down with a 15 year old Dalwhinnie - aromatic nose with hints of heather and peat. Really quite excellent.
The pudding course was supposed to be a Tipsy Laird but I didn't have time to make one so we made do with a Tesco Strawberry Trifle (family size) over which was a generously ladling of Harvey's Bristol Cream sherry.
Rounded of the meal with a selection of cheese: Black Crowdie from the Highlands, Orkney Island Cheddar and Arran Dunlop served with Paterson's triangle oatcakes.
There would have been coffee to follow and two more single malts to try but by half past night we were fat and happy and ready for bed.
Should Old Acquaintance be forgot, and never thought upon;
The flames of Love extinguished, and fully past and gone......
See you tomorrow.
