The last week or so, we've spent on a Superfine Merino Stud farm along Dick's Creek between Canberra and Yass.  Surrounded by steep hills, pastures, and *ahem* sheep, we learned a few things:

  • climbing over a barbed wire fence isn't as easy as it seems
  • eucalyptus oil can be used for everything!
  • Steep + rocky = 4x4 fun
  • always work in the shade and bring water
  • chain your house to the ground in case of high wind
  • kangaroo meat is tasty
  • remove dried sheep-poo-pellets from your boot immediately
  • bread frisbee should be an olympic spport
  • don't let a ram's head go down
  • ginger beer is delicious
  • sheep shears are sharp
  • the drunk fence is there for your protection, but don't test it
  • don't touch the crown of the sheep's wool
  • working off solar does not guarantee no power outage
  • watch out for wombat holes
  • beer at the end of a hard days work is a necessity
  • always keep a radio with you in case of emergency
  • sometimes dogs are of no use whatsoever
  • don't turn your back on a ram
  • always be on the lookout for snakes
  • watch out for roos and wallabys when driving
  • eat lots of meat
  • don't work during the hottest part of the day
  • picking up warm sheep poo with your bear hands is pleasant
  • enjoy the sunrise and sunset everyday
  • serrated tussock is evil!
  • One roo eats 8x as much as a sheep
  • icecream must be eaten every night
  • carrying a backpack of poison isn't as scary as it sounds
  • ram's bollocks are supposed to look like that
