The debate began.. What to do: go to the hospital? go to the clinic? go to the old man on the corner? go to where the first blood test was done? or, as was suggested by the guest house staff, go to a medicine man? (as much as that would probably make a GREAT blog entry, we're not interested at all!). We decided to try the clinic as it seemed the most official without the hassle of the hospital. However, the Dr. there didn't want to see us. We definitely wanted another blood test done, so we went back to the cigarette-seller/lab technician. She didn't want to do one for us and told us to talk to the old man on the corner (I guess the cigarette business was lucrative enough in the last few days she didn't need our money). So much for our choice of input as patients!
Back again and the last place on our list. He laid Brian out on a short wooden table with a little pillow for his head and drilled us with questions all while taking Brian's blood pressure and temperature. His temperature was higher today than the previous visit, but he wasn't manifesting the chills or sweats like before. After seeing that Brian still had a temperature, he wanted another blood test done and took us across the street to a different lab (take THAT, Cigarette-Lady). Now this place looked good. They actually had a few patients with IV's inside. The lab technician took a decent amount of blood (vs. a Dexter-slide) and ran it through a machine. Five minutes later, we had a very official looking print-out of a blood test rather than waiting 3 hours for a hand written report.
On the way back across the street, an entrepreneurial young man decided we looked like we needed his help as a guide. While standing in the street at the main round-a-bout, our conversation went something like this...
him: hello, how are you?
Me: not good, we're sick
him: where you go?
Me: to the Dr.'s because we're sick
him: you need moto to Dr.?
Me: no, it's right there and we'd like to go now
him: maybe tomorrow you want guide? I take you around?
Me: no! we've been here a week. we are sick and going to the Dr.'s now!
Finally, back at the Dr.'s the 2nd blood test showed nothing again.
Verdict? Just some kind of Cambodia bug that Brian's body is having a hard time fighting off. Given some migraine tablets to help with the headache and they seemed to take effect immediately. So nice to see the regular Brian sitting up, chatting and making his bad jokes again. Maybe we will be able to move on soon!
