For the last week, I have been trying to touch and catch geckos. Now we have 2 of them mating on the ceiling of our bungalow. At least someone is mating in there...
Usually solitary creatures, they have decided to make our residence their little love nest. The problem being, they have quite a loud call that they generally enjoy making late at night.
Hanging from the ceiling with the greatest of ease, one wonders how. Researchers are trying to emulate the grasping ability of the geckos foot, which is apparently capable of holding several kilograms off of a glass surface.
The big one, Gerald, is always giving me the evil eye. I don't think he likes me very much. He's about 12 inches long , spotted and generally looks grumpy (which is funny for someone who's mating his one time in the year). Perhaps that's because he cannot blink. Instead he must use his tongue to lick his enormous eyeballs. Ummmmmm...
Upon closer research on this specific species of gecko (Tokay). I found that when they bite, they will clamp on and hold for up to an hour. Forcing the gecko to prematurely release can cause him great harm. So I've stopped trying to pet Gerald...
