The day after our trek we took a flight from Cusco to Lima. We were happy to spend some extra money on a one hour flight in order to avoid the 24 hour bus that takes you around the Andes. After chilling out for a couple of days in Lima we took a five hour bus to Huacachina where we met up with Basia and Erik (the Canadian couple from the Lares trek).
Huacachina really is a great place, a little oasis in the middle of the desert with a few restaurants and hotels scattered around it. A tiny town. We wanted to fit it into our last days because we hoped to do dune bugging and sandboarding... activities that neither Jack nor I had ever done before. The dune bugging was great. You sit in a buggy, which looks like a big cage, and race up and down the dunes. Pretty much like a desert rollercoaster. On the way we stopped off at certain places to do sandboarding - the same as snowboarding but on sand. Because I don't know how to snowboard I just sat on my piece of wood or lied down and then raced down the hilll. Jack had an actual snowboard but it must have lost all its slide, so Jack got stuck in the sand more than he moved at all. In the end he gave up and also just slid down the dunes on his tummy.
Huacachina was our last fun adventure; we saw our last great sunsets and enjoyed the last warm rays of the sun. What a happy ending.
