From the cosmopolitan Kuala Lumpur we jumped right into the roaring chaos in the streets of Phnom Penh. Reminiscent of China and Vietnam, there are more scooters on the streets than fish in the sea - and there are neither traffic lights nor any traffic rules. I never understood how crossroads in the busy streets work, everyone just pushes in, beeps, pushes a bit further, beeps even harder and then you are magically through the chaos. When you want to cross the road, best thing I guess is to close your eyes and start walking. All you can do is hope for the best that all vehicles drive around you.
So far there was no need for us to cross any street in Cambodia. We enjoyed the safety of a Tuck-tuck from the airport to our hotel. Yes, it is a hotel this time. We found a very, very cheap deal on hotels.com and just booked it straight away. The budged price was self explanatory as soon as we arrived - it is a wedding hotel. There seem to be a lot of those in Phnom Penh, the entrance looks like the churches in Las Vegas where Elvis is the priest. There is no Elvis here but a big wedding party with one outfit crazier than the other. Pink, blue and yellow seem to be their favourite colours. Last night we saw one of the brides who had tightened her dress with safety pins.
So it doesn't matter that we are a bit outside the city centre, we have picked a very interesting spot to stay :)
