What I did
Saguaro National Park
We visited Saguaro National Park today and purchased our Lifetime Senior Pass, which gets us into all the National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands, for only $10 (per car)! What a deal! We braved the scorching heat by touring the park via car (getting out for views and to read the informational markers), although, we did enjoy a lovely walking trail through the Sonora Desert. The Saguaro National Park was established in 1933 to preserve the giant saguaro cactus: the supreme symbol of the American Southwest, and found only in the State of Arizona and a part of Mexico. It's amazing to think that this desert is teeming with life, especially when we learned that this is one of the hottest and driest areas on this continent. The giant saguaro is like a multi-storied apartment complex--many animals live in close quarters and occupants change constantly.
Next day visited the oldest excavated sign of civilization in all of North America, located between Tucson and Phoenix. The site is Casa Grande Ruins.

All Hitched Up and Ready to Go!
Today is the day that we have been anticipating! Our custom-made tow bar for the car was completed and installed, so now we are fully prepared to take off down the road. The past two weeks have served as a good initiation into the workings of our new home on wheels. It will be the beginning of the "real adventure", now that we are comfortable and have our car in tow. We plan to take off for New Mexico ... perhaps Deming will be our first night. There are plenty of historical sites and monuments in the area, and our goal is to visit them all, plus those not typically recognized.
