The day started with a four hour drive from Pierre. Along the way, be saw beautiful farms, cows and calves, horses, and birds. The birds included ringed-neck pheasants, red winged blackbirds, Bullock's orioles, and the rest that we can't identify. The trip just reinforced our belief that to really see the country, one cannot stay on the interstate highways.
After arriving at the Bismarck KOA in time for lunch in the coach, we headed out to see the state capitol. It is a beautiful building in art deco. The House, Senate, and Supreme Court were all semi circle rooms with warm wood walls of a variety of wood. It's the "skyscraper of the prairie". They built it just a little bit taller than Nebraska. No dome, as they didn't want to waste the space. We could see the whole city of Bismarck from the observation deck on the 18th floor.
After a quick stop at the grocery store, we made it back in time to relax before we joined others at the KOA for a BBQ dinner.
