Oahe Downstream Recreation Area

It was only 120 miles from Valentine, NE to Pierre, SD. We arrived before noon at the Downstream Recreation Area at Oahe Dam.  This is similar to the Lewis and Clark Rec Area back in Yankton.  It is another Corps of Engineers Dam and Recreation area.  The Corps is transferring many of these areas to the states to run as state parks.  The lake is quite large, running almost as far north as Bismarck, ND (our next stop). This is a beautiful campground.

After hooking up and unhitching the car, we drove to the state capitol.  This is a beautiful building with terrazzo floors, stained glass windows, marble staircases, and interesting murals.  We also stopped at the war memorials adjacent to the capitol grounds.

We came back to the coach and crashed.  We are tired already.
