 Erin says:

After rushing from the airport through the crazy traffic to our hotel we had about 15 minutes to freshen up before we had to meet in the lobby for our optional dinner show about the Tang Dynasty. I think most of our group of 40 people joined in on this excursion. We then hopped on board the bus (again) to a Las Vegas styled theater for dinner and a show.

Along the way we got to experience more than just the outskirts of the city. Like the area surrounding it, Xi'an is growing upwards. There is construction everywhere! The city also boasts lots of bright lights which also reminded me of LV. It is clear that the old neighborhoods/buildings will be forced out of the way for the bigger and better in no time.

The theater was gorgeous and modern. It really did remind me of Vegas theaters because there were long terraces gently going down to the stage. After being ushered to our seats we were promptly served tea, water and endless amounts of Chinese wine. The wine was delicious and sweet, but I don't think there was much alcohol if any.

We were served small portions of about half a dozen different cuisines. For starters we had braised chicken bites, followed by a mushroom soup (really, a broth). The next course was honey glazed cashews with prawns and chicken which were just wonderful. There were a couple other dishes after that but I really don't remember what they were, so clearly not notable. For dessert we were served an orange liquid with tapioca and mandarin oranges. And I don't know if it was a coincidence, but the liquid tasted like Tang. Oh so funny, Tang Dynasty show with Tang flavored dessert.

The show started after dinner and it was spectacular. There was beautiful music played on unique instruments from that period in time. There were a lot of vocals, solos, dancing and acrobatics. The costumes were also phenomenal. I am really glad we decided to go to this show.
