We are both a little nervous and excited about the upcoming trip.  Did we pack enough? Did we pack too much?  Is Tim's enormous bag going to get us thrown into a Chinese prison, is Erin's bag big enough for all of the items she wants to bring home.  While we do feel confident in our traveling pharmacy, we also don't want to have to use any of it.  We will have 2 laptops and 2 cameras, journals, and clothes for hot weather and nice dinners.  We look forward to sharing our adventure with you!

Looking back to when we made our RSVP and paid for our trip to China, so much has happened in our lives, mostly good, but not without its challenges.  This trip seems like a good reward in dealing with these challenges constructively on what is likely first of several international tours.  Erin was pretty surprised when I said that China sounded like an exciting place to go, and I think with the tremendous amount of reading and researching we have done about China including the movies and documentaries that we have viewed that this was a good choice, and we both look forward to experiencing all that China has to offer.  Yes, it will be hot and we won't understand most of what is said by the locals, but our guides will be English speaking and we will have air conditioners in our hotels, state rooms and buses.

We have learned lots of facts and stats. I even have a list of questions that Michele and Marisa want me to find out for them as they also began learning more about China because of the upcoming trip.  While these facts and stats are nice to know, one of the biggest things I want to experience is how is life in a city that has more population than the state of Washington and Oregon combined? or if I add in Idaho too, 3 of the 5 major cities are home to more people than these 3 states combined!  Erin and I were talking yesterday~ are the sidewalks crowded, is it like NYC, are there a lot of bicycles~ heck, do they even have sidewalks?  We heard the subways were really efficient, we will likely take one to the Night Food Tour on Sunday night in Beijing, assuming we don't get lost.  Our tour doesn't begin until Monday, but we get there on Saturday evening.  There are so many things that we would like to do on our own on Saturday night and Sunday before the tour begins, it is really overwhelming.  We have read about Country/Western Bars in Beijing...that might be fun to see!

As we picked up items for our trip, it was funny to think about how many of these things are just going back to where they were made, including the pens, pencils, stickers and toys for the kids we will see while visiting their school on a stop on the Yangtze.
