Today we spent the day at Tarangire National Park. We actually spent the night in this park with our Masai warrior friends looking over us...really they were watching for wild animals.
At this park, which is more of an intimate park..we encountered our most intimant moments with some of God's finest animals.
It started with the elephants and a our jeep being surrounded by about 25 elephants, of all sizes. That was all fun and games until they decided to move...towards US! Needless to say...that as tooo close for comfort...until they were gone.
The next intimate moment was watching a pair of ostriches mate. Interesting that the male ostrich's neck turns red when HE is ready. Then he roles around on the ground...almost seizure like. Then the female walks up...they do it...kinda in a crazy way and then he gets up and literally struts away...leaving her behind...we all felt as though we needed a cigarette after this show...and yes we have it on video...
Finally, Ceil and I were a bit too intimate with a monkey...for a moment. we stopped for a quick bathroom break...as everyone left the car Ceil and I stayed behind...as in usual bathroom break time in Africa we often sent a couple of people first to check out what the facilities were like. this time Ceil and I stayed back. Our driver forgot to tell us to close the windows of our vehicle. Needless to say...a monkey decided to join us in our car. I am not sure who in the end was more afraid...the monkey or Ceil and I. I can tell you though...we were the loudest. As we looked out, after the fact, others thought this was much more funny than we did.
Another experience...
