Now we get to visit Blyde River Canyon which is the 3rd largest canyon in the world. Fish River Canyon in Namibia, which we visited early in our trip is the 2nd largest, and the Grand Canyon in the USA is the largest.
We spent 4 nights camping here with members of the Land Rover Club of South Africa. This is an organization I joined before I left Canada. It was a great 4 days, with everyone joining together to eat around a common fire in the evening and a real treat to have other people to visit with that we are not saying good-bye to at the end of the evening.
Did I mention, what we call a BBQ, people in South Africa call a Braai. And where we usually use propane, they usually use wood and sometimes charcoal. But their wood is different than what we find in Canada. Hitting their wood with an axe is like hitting a piece of steel.
We did a few outings with the group:
Drove to the top of a mountain. (Just a little this side of the sun) I was a little concerned driving with all these experienced Off Road Drivers; but had no problem getting up, and then back down the mountain. Finally got a chance to use all my gears in Low Range.
Took a cruise with the group on the Blyde River Dam which was a great start to our visit.
Had a tour of a Citrus Farm that grew Lemons, Oranges, and Grapefruits for export.
Also go to visit an animal Rehabilitation Center where Karyn got to pet a Cheetah and feed a Vulture.
