April 20 317 KM to XAI-XAI
Mozambique has a much better bus/taxi service between towns than the previous countries we visited, which had virtually nothing. Like Asia, they pack as many people as humanly possible, (and then 2 more) into whatever type of van or open truck they are using. The small truck shown in the picture is passing us at about 80 kilometers per hour.
Spent our last night in Mozambique camping at Xai Xai. Our initial plan was to enter South Africa by travelling through the LIMPOPA PARK IN MOZAMBIQUE and then entering Kruger Park in South Africa using the border crossing connecting the two parks. I changed this plan when I was told that this road had pot holes much worse than anything I had yet experienced in Mozambique. Even worse than the 60 kilometres north of Inhassoro. This is the 60 Kilometer stretch that reminded me of the movie “Journey To The Center Of The Earth”
To this point Harley has run perfect, and I know a mistake on one of those pot holes could cause some serious damage. So being ever so cautious, we decided to take the good highway through Maputo to South Africa and enter Kruger through a southern gate.
Karyn and I both had a felling of accomplishment.....and relief.....to be back in South Africa.
