Next Stop, Hampton Beach, NH (almost in Maine) where I stayed with Robin and Bob.  This stop truly defined generosity for me.   I had never met either of them in person and only knew Robin via the parent support bulletin board when Robin invited me to include her home on my trip.   What a blessing.  We stayed at their beach house which is actually three cottages.   I had my very own cottage completely stocked with food and wine a short walk to the ocean!  I fell in love with the NE rocky coast in my college days when I went on an art trip up and down the coast.  This was bliss to return to the area.

Robin and Bob took me sightseeing on Saturday and for mojita's with Bob's family.  Sunday was mother's day and Bob took Robin and I out to a lovely dinner in town.

Monday morning, I was awakened early by a phone call that left me shaken.  My dear friend Tom had lost his wife, the love of his life, to a drunk driver the night before on Mother's Day.   I had just been in Florida to celebrate Tom's 65th birthday and had so much fun with him and Kathy that my first response was denial as well as fear for Tom, knowing how great that pain must be.   Kathy was his world.   I went and knocked on Bob and Robin's door to let Robin know and began sobbing.   Bob and Robin went to work and I spent the day on the coast while the weather wasn't stormy, but windy enough to have giant waves crashing on the rocks.   Somehow the violence of them mirrored my mood.   I drove to Portsmouth and bought and "ugly doll" at a shop and mailed it to Tom, after I practiced using it myself to hit the wall over and over again. I also saw a Lintz outlet and bought a sack of chocolate and ruined my healthy eating by eating all of it.

Tuesday night, Robin and Bob returned to pick me up and drive to Boston where a group of parents met at Bobbee and Brad's house for dinner.   As I looked at the pictures for the evening, I realized that I was the only single with three other couples and that it was ok.  I didn't feel awkward or out of sorts in any way.   It was at this dinner that I met Boolie and her husband (also Boolie).

I looked up the local Toastmaster groups and found a meeting in Portsmouth to attend.   It felt like home to be back in a meeting and I was thrilled with the opportunity to participate and give one of the speech evaluations.   One advantage of being a guest, I was able to tell the truth with love to the speaker (who I later found out is in the Maine House of Representatives.)  One of the officers came to me afterward and suggested that I consider entering the TM evaluators contest for being able to deliver the good, bad and ugly.  That pleased me.

My time  alone in NH was spent on the beach or walking the shore or riding the bike.  Robin is so tall, it was much easier when I remembered how to lower the seat.    This was a quiet visit with a lot of alone time and it was good for me.   I'd just left Fairy Jen's house with the kids and animals and the ocean helped me process the sudden grief.

Bob and Robin returned at the end of the week to take me out to dinner at Petey's for the seafood chowder.  Yum.. this was as delicious as they promised me.   I got a kick out of the sign that read.. Sometimes Open on Monday.
