My GPS thought I needed to take a scenic route and took me through the Norfolk tunnel in rush hour to get to Virginia Beach.  My first impression was "I would not like this traffic."  Turns out, there are much easier routes.  I arrived at the Bowersox home at dinner time on Wednesday night.  Talk about planning, maybe the gps was conspiring with me. (smile)  Beth is known throughout our community as the best cook.   She did create some great meals and still respected my health request and did not serve any of her fabulous desserts.  It was interesting living in a house of men.  Along with Beth, are sons Zach and Brendon; husband, Alan; and father, Pops.  It was humorous to see all go their own ways and magically appear when food was served.   These men were great and always helped with setting the table and clean up.

After dinner, we went down and took our first of what was daily walks on the beach.  Oh, to have my feet in the ocean is happiness for me.  Who cares if the water is a little cold?  Although, I'd been in training for the 3day walk, it was a challenge to walk with Beth.  First, to learn to walk in the sand and second.. her legs are twice as long as mine.  Still, I struggled to keep up and sometimes, slowed her down.   I did take a luxurious long bath in the jetted tub when we returned.

In the morning, we went to the Boardwalk.  It was clear that Beth had found her own personal piece of heaven right there at the ocean and I loved being there to share it.   The boardwalk was unusual in that it had carvings on the bottom of it which added a festive appeal.

Back at the house, I pulled out all of my Svaroopa props to do my yoga practice.  Soon, I had a 70lb visitor coming in to check on me.   I'm lying on the floor with an eye bag on my face when I get a surprise lick across the face.   Tell me, why do dogs love me???

One night, as Beth and I started on our walk, I suggested we walk in a different direction to see the sunset.  It was a perfect lovely night and as we approached a barrier, we explored in the darkness to find a route through and continued to walk on the pristine beach.   We returned home enchanted and excited to share our discovery with the menfolk who burst out laughing.   It seems we were trespassing on government property at the Little Creek Naval Base.   (oops)  Getting arrested would have been another adventure to write about on this trip.

I ventured out solo the next day and spent some time at Starbuck's journaling and then on to the beach.   A  storm rolled in while I was at the beach and I loved taking pictures of the contrasting dark sky and watching it pass over.   It was gorgeous.   I really wanted to get henna tattoos on my feet and it was both expensive for what I wanted and not recommended if I was going to still be walking in the sand and water.   I choose bare feet and playing keep away with the waves as the tide came in.

It was at Beth's house that I had my first travel radio show.    It is at www.blogtalkradio.com/hikath   We had fun.   It is more of a conference call with friends on the phone than a "real" radio show.   Merlin dialed in to join and was quite entertaining.  I love all the ways that technology offers us to connect.

The days soon ticked by and Sunday morning arrived too soon.   After packing, I joined the Bowersox clan at Sunday services and afterward, waved our good-byes and was On the Road again.   Alan had recommended the scenic trip along the eastern shore and helped me convince the gps to take the route through the Chesapeake Tunnel.

Traveling through the tunnel bridge is an interesting experience.   It was a little claustrophobic for me, but it was the florescent lighting that I really didn't like.   I somehow felt like I was a living diagram from Readers Digest, "I am Joe's Intestine."  I loved the above water bridge sections and took deep breaths to get through the tunnel.
