After having been to both Bolivia and Brazil, Bolivia took it home with flair as the carnival destination of preference. Brazil during high season - when the country becomes expensive and hard to travel - brings too many frustrations. None of such in Bolivia nd I'll have free lodging at friends' homes in Oruro and Cochabamba. Easy decision that was!

After carnival in Bolivia I'm still not in the best position to compare, but I can imagine that a Bolivian carnival is very different from it's Brazilian neighbour: very traditional, folkloric, accessible and celebrated in complete chaos. Amidst the frenzied crowd it took less than half an hour before I got my camera picked from my rain jacket's easy accessible pocket. Bummer!! Luckily I made copies of my latest pictures before leaving Paraguay and I could rely on my friends' cameras for the memories on film.

A very long detour (+3 days) will bring me for a second time to Brazil, my last destination. I'm backtracking all the way back through the Chaco to Paraguay, with a stop at Ciudad del Este to replace my stolen camera, continuing to So Paulo for a cheap domestic flight to So Luis in the northeast of Brazil.
