This day started out as one of the most scariest moments in my life to one of the funniest! Here's the story....
I was awoken by a lot of noise coming from my dorm buddies (Tom and Chris). I looked over to them and said you OK Tom... He was like "yeah but Chris is having a nightmare" I was like OK and fell back to sleep! A few moments later I was awoken again by the same banging and crashing!! So I said "Chris you OK?" nothing! It then hit me... Chris is having a diabetic fit! (he did tell me about this before I left but hadn't told me what to do if it happens). I sprung out of bed and got Tom to turn on the lights whilst I climbed to the top bunk and held Chris's hands! He seemed to respond but wasn't waking up! I told tom to go for help whilst I tried to wake him! Still nothing just twitching and fitting! Tom came back with no help so I decided to ring his girlfriend Hannah! She answered and talked me through what to do... But Chris wasn't responding. Tom poured water on his face... again nothing! Hannah said get someone to get help as you might have to go to a hospital! I asked Tom again to find anyone... What seemed like hours passed but it was meer minutes as Tom came back with the hostel owner: Nigel! Being ex SAS Nigel got Chris into a roll on the top bunk and we carried him off...
We carried Chris to the top of the stairs and left him in the recovery position whilst I grabbed passports/clothes... We met back at the top of the stairs and Nigel had brought more help. About 6 of us carried Chris down to flights of stairs and into Nigel's van! We had Chris laying on his side covered in blankets. At one point he stopped fitting and it even looked as if he had stopped breathing!!!! But then the fitting began again so least he wasn't dead! Nigel through all this as driving at the speed of light and if it wasn't for him I don't think Chris would be here today!
We arrive at the hospital and get surrounded by nurses. They don't understand what's wrong with him so I show then Chris's diabetic kit and one lady says 'diabetic' so phew! Inside they strap him up to a machine and begin putting fluids into his body. I in the mean time am filling out all his paper work and arranging payment for his treatment.
Just then Chris comes around in a total daze. Not knowing where he is or what has happened. He recognizes no one! But as soon as I head over to him he reaches out and says "James" I hold onto his hand as he starts to slowly come around. Nigel and Tom head back to the hostel and I prepare myself for staying the night! After about half an hour they move myself and Chris into a small ward where two nurses look after him (and me). They speak little English and it was these two ladies who totally made this situation a lot better as they just laughed at us a lot. I then received a text from back home.... Which was news I really didn't want to hear! Not good news for me at all! OK I was pretty low as it was but now I was lower. I couldn't let it get to me though as I had to stay strong for Chris and this situation! I then received a bill for 6'865B (like £120) and I paid it on my credit card.
Chris fell asleep and I went for a little walk outside around the local area. Their wasn't much so after an hour I came back and I found out we were due to move rooms to an overnight one! We got taken in the life up to the 3rd floor where we entered our room. Nigel about an hour before hand had brought our bags in for us, so we had all our kit and Chris had his laptop. We watched Thai TV, ate takeaways and had a really good laugh. I also got the best nights sleep here too!
In the morning I had to pay another 2,589B! Again I put it on my credit card! At 1pm Nigel came to pick us up!
I later found out that in about an hour or so Chris would have gone into a coma that he never wakes up from! Scary... So I really did nearly loose a friend that morning!
