So, at last the trip has begun and Alex and I are in Orlando. Woo, I believe is the expression. Unfortunately I am also in an extortionate internet cafe so don't rely on this being too long and informative.

As of today, we have been to 4 out of the 5 theme parks we plan on visiting: Islands of Adventure, Universal Studios, Wet 'n' Wild and Busch Gardens. All very fun. Some of the BEST rollercoasters I have ever been on. My 4 favourites are Montu (BG), Sheikra (BG), Duelling Dragons (IoA) and The Hulk (IoA). Not much to say about them, I guess, apart from the fact they're big and fast and loopy. I'm sure Alex would be able to expand more (when we're in queue lines, he tends to come out with phrases like "double wood" and "suspended inversion"...I just nod and smile).

Ooh, and while I'm here, word to the wise: never try to walk anywhere in the US. It doesn't work. I mean, firstly I should just point out that it's a bad idea to try to walk ANYWHERE in new shoes that turn out to be really, really good at encouraging blisters on the first day and then spending the next 4 days in theme parks and seeing rides as more of an excuse to sit down than an adrenaline-packed thrill. But also, it's just not pedestrian friendly. When Alex and I arrived at out hotel, we decided to walk to Universal to see if we could go on a ride or just check it out. Firstly, we had difficulty getting anybody to give us directions that weren't for cars ("Well, sweetie, I've never tried to walk there myself"), then we realised this was because, in some places, pavements were non-existent. Furthermore, you know that green man on traffic lights? The one that, in England, means "Walk now, for you are safe and the cars will stop to let you cross"? It doesn't mean that in the US. Here it means, "Walk, if you want, but I'm still going to let cars through with absolutely no warning so I guess there's no point to me being here...just to tempt you across the road just as an angry 4x4 decides to exercise its right of way very pointedly". Seriously, the cars keep coming. Did not realise that at first. Near death experience.

Anyway, I need to go try to book an overnight train from Singapore to Malaysia (that'll be in about 56 days, I think) so I'll sign off now.
