Day 163 - Today was a Bucket List moment (well, for me anyway.  Nick's will NEVER include off the ground situations on his list)!!  It was a spectacular morning and we were off to Napa leaving at 5:00 a.m. to get to Domaine Chandon for a 6:30 start time.  We are treated to Coffee, Orange Juice and Croissants and Muffins.  We then get our safety briefing and are taken over to the start point which is on the driving range of a golf course.

Our flight is about 45 minutes long (seemed like 10 minutes) and we reach a height of 3,600 feet where the winds are blowing at 35 miles per hour, but you would never know it, and we covered 7 miles.  You don't feel the sense of movement at all.  Nick did well, he was a great sport.  Not so sure he thoroughly enjoyed it, but it was good of him to come.

After our flight we were treated to a full champagne breakfast back at Domaine Chandon.

Our pilot was Kim and he was full of information about the area and has been doing this for over 30 years.  The landing was picture perfect.  The basket just sat down and we were done.  I expected a bump or a drag, but none of that!! We landed in a county park full of grass and I'm sure that helps in soft landings. All together we had 5 balloons with Napa Balloons and there were 7 others from other companies.  It was just a magical experience and I would definitely do it again.

After we left the Balloon experience, we headed up the Silverado Trail and stopped at Black Stallion Winery...gorgeous upscale place!  Then off along the trail, just viewing, not stopping and then back to the town of Napa and then back to Vacaville to have dinner with my cousin in Davis.

A GREAT day!

BEAUTIFUL pics! I did that over 10 years ago in Australia. Your photos make me want to do it again!

Way to go Nick!! I knew you had it in 'ya!! We used to see the ballooners overhead most every morning when we lived in the NW. There were a few of them in our little town. Such a beautiful sight. However, I wonder if they should have served the champagne first to help fortify the spirit :)

Way to go Nick! Sandy, what did you do to him? We want the rest of the story when you get to Vegas!

Wow, you guys are really something else, also y'all look stupendous on the ground with your pilot! Zeke ran a very special chase car years ago in Vermont early in the morning. The balloon finally landed at about 7:00 A.M in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Folks gathered out from their houses in pajamas and nightgowns. Out of the basket stepped 5 people singing "Up up and away in my beautiful balloon....", yup, it was Florence LaRue and the 5th Dimension with the pilot...champagne all around. Z & J
