The weather turned out quite nice and we ended up with sunshine - so pretty lucky for us
The bus took us to town, and we walked all over the place. Lots of people with the cruise ships that come there so that's a bit of a pain. We went to the Red Dog Saloon for lunch and that was fun. Sawdust floor and piano player playing Scott Joplin! Great!!
Unfortunately, as we were just starting out my big Nikon camera decided to quit - and I had an actual breakdown over it. Three of the guys got it back to working somewhat, but the electric eye must be faulty, so I haven't been able to use it.
Next we were taken to the Mendenhall Glacier, but we weren't really given enough time to walk around so that was too bad. It had also started to drizzle, so it wasn't as great as it could have been. But, we were glad to have seen it.
Back to the bus, back to the boat and back at 8:00 p.m. We made a stop at Haines on the way back, so it was nice to see that small town. It is 15 miles between Haines and Skagway on the water and over 350 over the roads.
Our bus driver told us about the exhorbitant fees for bringing RV's. If you go to Juneau, it's $1500 one way, but if you have to one of the southern ports you pay as much as $3500. That would make the drive a lot easier knowing that!
