Where I stayed
TOK RV PARK
Another sunny day, so we must be doing something right. We alter between paved and hard pack gravel roads, 1000 times better than yesterday. We see lots of evidence of fire as we head over the mountains. One was named the Porcupine fire in 1990.
We pass Mount FairPlay at elevation 5541' - the highest point. I was told by the fellow at Chicken that they see moose all the time - I saw none!! On this road, I did see a beautiful hawk in a nearby tree and a tiny squirrel. Oh yeah Two of the big five - NOT.
We pass another of our RV'ers beside the road, but this time 4 other coaches are helping him, so we continue on and get here to Tok in 2.5 hours. Again, unscathed. Thankfully, Nick is taking these roads very cautiously and I think that is making the difference. Some of the drivers treat this as a race, and they are paying the price.
So, we are excited about Valdez - despite the oil spill there which put it on the map, it is supposed to be one of the prettier places in Alaska - so we will see ...
Hope you are all well.
