The Army in all of it's wisdom, gave me a ticket to get back, but the flight leaves really early in the morning, and then goes from Nashville to Chicago, where I would sit for four hours before turning around and going to Atlanta. We figured it'd be fun to just drive the five hours down there. That way we'd get a chance to check out our new car (View it here) on a moderate distance trip, and spend almost an entire day longer together.
So after an enjoyable drive (perhaps not for Garrett), we arrived in our hotel and had dinner, had a wonderful date, doing everything we could to avoid the reality of why we were in Atlanta to begin with! But the sun did rise, as it has a tendency to do fairly regularly I'm told, so we headed off to the airport. My flight wasn't until almost 6:00 PM, and I had to sign in at 1:00, so we had some time to kill. It turns out that the TSA has implemented a policy that military spouses are allowed to get a gate pass, which allows them to go all the way back to the gates to see their soldier off, or greet them at the gate, just like way back when before the US was changed by a group of Saudis with box cutters. So even our time waiting for my flight was fun, simply because we were a family, together, just for those last few hours even.
It was hard to force myself onto the plane, but it had to be done, and Christina and I made it through with a minimum of tears (when the other could see). Guess It's goodbye again, sorry to be leaving you, goodbye again (OK, I pulled a DTD Christmas update style song theft, but it fit[double points to the first e-mail with artist])
