On December 25, we got ready to leave for Norblinka to do the wedding. Tsering and his friends left my apartment to do some running around and Me and Sonam Monk went to meet Dolma, Cheseung's girlfriend as she would help me prepare for the wedding (my hair and my buddhist marriage clothing). After meeting her, we met up with Sopa, a friend of Tsering's,
and we boarded a taxi for the 1 hour drive down the mountain.
Something unexpected happened as soon as we all got into the taxi. The backtire went flat! So after 10 minutes, we were on our merry way.
My god! My hotel room was so beautiful! Just big with lots of windows and so clean! I later found out that Richard Gere and Jackie Chan normally use this room when they were in town. Tsering didn't want to tell me how much it cost but Cheseung later told me it was 2000 rupees, (I think that is around $100.00, expensive for a hotel room in India as people
only normally pay only 200 rupees per night).
At 5:30pm Christmas Day, we began the ceremony. We took many pictures in the hotel and proceeded to the temple to pray and officially become man and wife. It was a bit difficult because I did not know what to do and Tsering only said to me that I should copy his every move and later pray that we are husband and wife, to promise each other this, and to promise to be good and so forth. I did this.
We exchanged rings, and headed up to our reserved restaurant patio for celebrations. This lasted for the next 8-9 hours. God, I was so tired but it was pretty neat. The boys did a lot of singing (love songs in tibetan) and we ate a lot of food, followed by a lot of drinking. I hardly touched my wine. Didn't feel like drinking.
I was too tired at 3:00am in the morning and the guests told me to go to my room with Tsering to sleep so we did. But before we did, a few of the guests came with us to get Choeden, who passed out in our room. And that was it! Tsering Kyab is now my husband.
I am leaving tonight for New Delhi to change my plane ticket to come home in January sometime. Not sure what date yet. Also, me and Tsering are trying to go to Kathmandu, Nepal for a few days before I fly home and can only do this if my dad sends me my wedding money. He said he'd help pay $300.00 so I will use this for the Kathmandu trip as honeymoon.
I will try to update my website later this week if I get to Nepal. Tsering has also told me that it will be a dangerous journey because of the road conditions and also because of the civil war happening over there right now. He told me that there is a possibility our bus can be hijacked by guerillas. I hope he is over-exhaggerating on this part?
Anyhow, I wish you all a happy new year in 2007 and that there is nothing but happiness for everyone for the next 365 days. Take care!
