Well, we're back on the road again. While last year's drive up the Alaskan Highway through western Canada to Alaska was a once in a lifetime experience, we are going to give it some competition this year with our journey to four of Utah's National Parks.
Our plan is to take in Zion, Bryce, Arches and Canyonlands National Parks starting in early May to avoid the heat of summer and the crowds. This plan is not without some risk in that if we go too early, some places may still have winter issues in the higher elevations such as the North Rim of the Grand Canyon; it will not even open for public access until May 15 this year.
We started looking at reservations on line for these parks in early February and quickly learned that booking four months in advance was a good thing because these parks are not only popular but have few sites for RV's. Having got the reservations so that we could spend 5-6 days at each park then move to the next one, we decided to drive straight to Zion first and work our way back east to the other parks. The return route home is indefinite once we get past Memorial Day weekend; we are going to try the "take it as it comes" method so see how that goes.
We've got the clothes, food and bikes all loaded and the countdown has begun. If you have an interest in any of these parks, read on and hopefully we will mention something that may assist you in your trip to one of these areas.
