Begging is banned in Bangladesh

The government of Bangladesh passed a law that would ban begging within five years.

The streets of Bangladesh are filled with beggars. Some of our bloggers found themselves face to face with extreme poverty and the hopelessness of panhandling in Bangladesh. Here are their stories:

On the train we had many stops. Here a boy was begging for money. I took his picture and then gave him some money.

All day long this beggar sings “Allah, Allah” in a reasonably melodious voice to all who pass his regular spot. On this day, an on-coming woman drops a coin in his outstretched hand.
