TravelPod’s new search engine

By starlagurl

If you’ve ever tried to search the TravelPod blogs for information before, you’d know that our search left something to be desired. Searching for Paris would bring you to a blog about a toga party.

While the results were often amusing, it was frustrating if you were actually trying to find useful information.

Just last week we launched a new search engine. You can find it on the right hand side of the homepage, or on the top right hand side of every single page within the site.

Simply type in exactly what you are looking for. No extra thinking needed!

Here’s a search I did on Montreal.

Check it out:

http://www.travelpod.com/s/blogs/Montreal

You can click on the links in the yellow box, and it will take you straight to the page on Montreal, or you can browse through the tabs, looking at photos, entries sorted by relevance or date.

You can even find other bloggers that live in Montreal and discussions in the TravelPod forum about Montreal.

If you want to get fancy, you can type “concert @in Montreal” and you get all kinds of good stuff about concerts in Montreal:

http://www.travelpod.com/s/concert+%40in+montreal

Or maybe you want to read about a specific user traveling to Montreal. In that case, type “Montreal @by starlagurl”:

http://www.travelpod.com/s/Montreal+%40by+starlagurl

I hope you find our new search useful and that it helps you plan your next trip to Montreal… or anywhere else in the world!

Hey guys, the links above aren’t correct: the first one goes to “travel+gear”, the second to “travel+gear in thailand”, and third to “gear+slipperycoconut.” Congrats on the new release.

Oh yeah, you’re right. I will change it. Thanks for noticing.

Idon’t think it works. When you do a search for Cordoba, it sends you to Argentina. For Merida, it takes you to Mexico. Last time I looked, they are both historic places in Spain, which were there way before the Argie and Mex ones !!!

Hi David, you’re right. There are lots of kinks to work out. If you type in “Cordoba, Spain” it works as it’s supposed to. This is the trouble we face when there is more than one place in the world with the same name. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
