A worker at the Singapore zoo was attacked by three white tigers and died on the way to the hospital today.
The Singapore Zoo is a magnificent place, and the white tigers were one of the main attractions at the zoo. A couple of TravelPod bloggers snapped some photos of the magnificent animals on previous trips.
Christosp was fascinated by the tigers and took some beautiful photos this past July.
Visited the Zoological gardens today. Best zoo I’ve ever been too, very few cages so the animals roam around relatively freely in their enclosures surrounded by water moats. My favourite animal of the day had to be the white tiger, such a majestic and powerful creature. The zoo is set in a beautiful landscape surrounded by water and forest. A great Zoo and defiantly worth a visit.

Dobby enjoyed the elephants and the orangutans
Had an awesome time at the zoo, saw some really awesome stuff, like an opening a coconut race between 7 humans and 1 orangutan, no prizes for guessing who won, or what won i should say.

Guykb and his family traveled to the Singapore Zoo last November and they also loved the open feeling the zoo provides.
The zoo is in a lovely setting and there are no bars between you and the animals. Sometimes there are glass walls, but when it comes to the taipan I have no problem with that.

I want to address my sympathy and condolence to the worker’s family for the demised of their family member in the accident.
We visited the Singapore Zoo last year November and without doubt, it’s the best attraction of Singapore, with the nature’s greeness, wild and lakes, make the visitors totally separated from the concrete jungle of the city. However, with the open settings for the animals and barrier free concepts between the animals and the visitors, it did make us, especially family with young children, felt a bit uncomfortable when we were at the wild predators enclosure.
Among those animals in the zoo, the White Tigers region was the highlight of our visit and I must say Omar, Jippie & Winnie were handsome with pride. They didn’t bother much about the visitors and neither did they give any threat to the visitors and they literately just sat there on the stone platform.
The zoo has done a marvellous job in keeping the place feel as home as possible for the animals and overall, I must say the zoo is safe for tourists to visit. Just educate and discipline your children with rules and regulations to obey. And of course, that also applies to adults! Happy Zooing!

Thanks Karen, for your personal account of the zoo. It does sound like a lovely place and I’m glad you had such a great experience. I think we can all agree that it’s upsetting when accidents like this happen.

You a man of no sympathy… be proud of yourself….. I hope one day you will regret for your own comment above.

I know we must obey all the regulations of the zoo, but the zoo management itself should have back up plan if something happened especially like this case.
From what I understand it take a few minutes the arwah struggling before he came to death, and if the quick action be taken by the management maybe we can save him without kill the tiger of course.

SS please be understand, the one got kill is not a tourist he’s a worker & they need to get near it to their duties not out of curiosity or fun for christ sake. all i can say is the Singapore Zoo doesn’t take enough precaution for their workers. RIP En. Nordin

Seriously, have you all read the news? Its reported that the man has jumped in the enclosure in an attempt to COMMIT SUICIDE.
So quinnie, he did not get into the enclosure for his duties.
Its suicide.

Where did you get your information from YouGuysAreIdiots? I had a look around some news sites, but didn’t see any mention of suicide. I’d be interested in reading your account of the incident.

So reportedly that guy covered hs head with a pail after the first bite the tigers gave him. Which means he changed his mind about dying. Or couldn’t one of his family members have sussed out that something was seriously amiss with him and send him for counseling? Anyway, I have serious doubts that jumping into a white tigers’ enclosure is one of the easiest ways to die. It’s probably one of the most painful ways to die.. But I still give my condolences to the deceased’s family.
Besides, starlagurl, if you have been analysing the newspapers, you would have figured out that it was an attempt to commit suicide long ago.
Plus, the zoo IS safe T_T okay, it only isn’t when you have a seizure and decide that the only way to relieve it is jump into the enclosure.
November 26, 2008 at 4:31 am |
you got to understand that the zoo invested tons of money on the safety precaution. And there is no way those tigers can get to the man unless the man deliberately jump in. Coz there is a deep moat dividing the safety barrier and the tigers’ area. Which means even if any one falls in, they will be able to get out. The only way he could get to the tigers is if he climb over the fence and jumped into the tigers’ area. i read the NEW paper and the NEW paper reported that the man actually say “Goodbye, you won’t be seeing me again.” before it all happens. It might or might not be suicide. But i know one thing, what he did was stupid!
Singapore zoo is safe as long as you don’t do something stupid like he did.
November 26, 2008 at 4:33 am |
If you actually see how the tigers’ enclosure are designed, you’d know that it is impossible for some one to land near the tigers unless it was deliberate.
November 26, 2008 at 4:36 am |
And guys, don’t assume there are not precautions okay. coz the zoo workers are often practising emergency drill, and they practice what to do when certain things happen in each and every enclosure and in handling the different type of animals frequently. Don’t judge just because you don’t know what goes on within the zoo management.
November 26, 2008 at 1:30 pm |
Wow, I can’t believe he said this:
“Goodbye, you won’t be seeing me again.”
Where did you read that?
December 4, 2008 at 1:39 am |
Wow, surely you people with the wild news stories don’t believe everything you read in newspapers?? I’d like to think you are just being stirrers. Well at least I hope your not for real!!!
December 4, 2008 at 7:30 am |
Its suicide. Man jumps in, taunts tigers, tigers react, simple as that. Whomsoever who bears condoloences or not is subjective to their own discretion. I for one, feel nothing. Its as ridiculous as walking into heavy traffic with an almost 100% chance of being hit, and people feeling sorry for me when I get hit. Stupid, isn’t it. I’m from Singapore. I know what goes on here. So whether you doubt me or not is your problem. Lets not speculate what we don’t know.
