Since 2004, Gerry Channer and his wife Sharon have been traveling and blogging in their 1987 Volkswagen campervan throughout North and South America.

As two of the founding members of TravelPod, the couple were one of the most prolific bloggers on the site. They retired from their Ottawa herb garden business and hit the road, logging in anywhere from Vancouver, Canada to Half Moon Island, Antarctica.

This year though, Gerry fought a lengthy battle with leukemia. He passed away Thursday, four months after a bone marrow transplant from his brother. He will remembered fondly by the TravelPod team for his love of life and travel.

We were lucky enough to enjoy Gerry and Sharon’s company at our TravelPod meetup in 2007 and I’ve always been inspired by their travels.

If you’ve never read their blog, take a minute to browse their adventures. Hopefully their travels will inspire others to live life to its fullest like Gerry and Sharon did.
