No more “happy pizza” in Cambodia

The Earth Times has been reporting that Cambodian authorities will be cracking down on the marijuana-laced pizzas found all over the backpacker circuit in that country. Eating a slice of so-called “happy pizza” has been a backpacker rite of passage for a while now. So what will become of the hippy paradise now that the ganj is no longer a welcome pizza topping?

Cambodians aren’t the only ones to mix recreational drugs into food.

Have you tried the space cakes in Amsterdam? How about the mushroom shakes in Vang Vieng? Let us know about your experience in the TravelPod travel forums.

I have for a longest tiem wanted to try the happy pizza - but while driving around in PHnom Penh saw a sign for Ecstatic Pizza - that sort of raised the bar and i had to start afresh trying to pursuade colleagues that we should try the pizzas. What s pity if they disappear before I have had my chance to finally be daring in my old age and take a bit ..or two.

Did you get to try them in the end, or not? I’m confused!

We tried the “happy pizza” in Siem Reap, but made the mistake of asking for “extra happy”; turns out to mean paralytically stoned! We couldn’t make it to the temples the next day as we were just too stoned to move. We tried it again the next day, only this time asking them to put it in a banana shake and that was more of a pleasant high (we could still walk after).

Tried opium tea in Vang Vieng which put me in a little world and I became one with the mountain and river - it was pleasant experience.

Not big into drugs, but just thought I’d try them as a new experience. Relatively harmless, especially compared to alcohol - plenty of walking casualties in Vang Vieng owing to alcohol related incidents!!!
