When would you boycott a destination?

Right now, everyone’s talking about human rights abuses in China. How will this affect the Olympics? Some people are calling for a boycott to the event.

Would you boycott China or any other country because of their political track record? Would you have gone to South Africa during apartheid, or Afghanistan during the rule of the Taliban? Some people would rather not travel to the U.S. or Israel, what do you say about that?

Do boycotts even help the situation?

We would like to go to any country, even if in it human rights are not respected, to know the situation from inside, and be able to talk about it and give it to know to the public.
However, we would try to contribute with my money as less as possible to the persistence of unfair situations or systems (what can be difficult most of times).

That’s a very unique perspective. It is very important to find out as much as you can about any subject that seems shadowy, or that you are unsure of. Of course, you always have to watch out, how you are spending your money in these places. I guess the best way to do this, is to steer clear of the Hiltons and the McDonald’s of the world, no?
