Tech gadgets in your backpack?

On Monday, introducinlyric posed the question: Do cell phones and other tech-devices ruin your holidays? Or have they gotten you out of a difficult situation?
I don’t really believe that cellphones have a place in a traveler’s backpack, but I think it could be helpful if you don’t want to be inconvenienced. However, it’s these inconveniences that make great trips and become part of the great stories to tell people when you get back.
